Heidi Lucking Counseling Services

Hi, I'm Heidi

I was first introduced to counseling as a child and found myself drawn to psychology and mental health throughout college, all while continuing my own counseling journey—a practice I maintain to this day. Life is rarely linear, and every person's story and challenges are uniquely their own. That understanding has led me to deeply value the opportunity to walk alongside my clients and share in their experiences. I believe genuine human connection is a catalyst for healing and growth, and when combined with professional education, training, and ongoing learning, it creates a solid recipe for meaningful work together.

Alaska: The Last Frontier

Born in Anchorage and homegrown on the Island of Unalaska, I later relocated to East Texas with my family. Despite the move, I spent years telling everyone I was going back to Alaska one day. After finishing my studies, the great migration finally happened in 2022.Having grown up immersed in Alaska’s culture, values, and wild beauty, I learned early on the restorative power of nature. The outdoors remain one of my favorite places to recharge, reflect, and reconnect—regardless of where I am. I believe a person’s environment is an important ingredient in the recipe of life, influencing the unique blend of experiences that can feel sweet, bitter, spicy, savory, bland, and everything in between. Building insight into these ingredients—and their influence on us—is often an important part of the healing process.Living in and traveling to different communities, both professionally and personally, has deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity and reinforced my belief that every person's story is shaped by their perceived experiences, traditions, identities, values, and environment. I genuinely enjoy learning about different cultures and perspectives, and I consider it an honor when clients invite me into those parts of their world. I strive to approach each client with curiosity, openness, and respect, recognizing that meaningful connection is less about fully understanding someone and more about helping them feel seen, heard, and accepted. These days, I’m proud to call Alaska home again and provide counseling services exclusively to clients throughout the state.

Others + Environment + Self

How to Connect

I have long joked I should be a professional student, as I continue to be amazed by our ever-evolving understanding of the human body, mind, and lived experience, fueling my ongoing commitment to learning and growth.I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from The University of Texas at Tyler. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Alaska and a National Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors. I am currently working toward becoming a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider, also through the NBCC, recognizing the unique realities of providing care across Alaska’s rural communities.Another key ingredient in my recipe for healing is connection to self. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner© in training, I integrate evidence-based approaches that support healing through both the body and the mind. By learning to access the innate wisdom of the body, we work to support the nervous system in releasing stored stress and trauma, while building greater capacity for regulation and resilience. Through this work, people can feel more empowered to navigate the effects of trauma, as well as difficult memories, sensations, emotions, life challenges, and transitional periods, and begin shifting patterns that may no longer serve them. This process also supports deeper self-discovery and the development of a more grounded, connected relationship with oneself and the world around us.You can learn more about my professional work, areas of expertise, and availability by visiting my Psychology Today profile.
